Costa Rica from the Sky
As you might be aware, I splurged a little bit a few months back and bought myself a new toy – a DJI Mavic Pro drone! After 4 months of waiting for the drone to be delivered (2 week lead time eh? Must have been Dominican time…) it finally arrived and it was time to play.
Travelling through Costa Rica provided some amazing opportunities to test out the drone and its film making capabilities. From launching and landing off bungee carriages and narrow hanging bridges, to flying over deep blue oceans; this drone has given me plenty of heart attacks as I’ve learned how to fly it. Especially when the DJI App on my phone crashed as I was flying circles around a massive catamaran in the Bat Islands, luckily the thing was still hovering right where I left her!
I have put together a few clips from flying in Santa Teresa, Monteverde and Playa Conchal in Tamarindo, take a look and tell me what you think! I’ve still got a lot to learn about flying for film making – slower and steadier is always a good idea – but for a first crack I’m pretty happy with some of these shots! Keep an eye out for more drone videos as they come in, I can’t wait to take advantage of all the smart active track features for some awesome action and scenery shots!
